One of the number one questions we get during the demo process is, what social behaviors can I reward safely? We wish you could track and reward every social activity under the sun, however, leading social platforms like Meta and TikTok do not open up all of their API’s to allow it. With that said there are third-party API services that will track for you, however, integrating with them puts you at risk of being shut down at any moment in time. Not very reliable.
Overall, it’s much easier to track community related behavior versus general activities. For example, you could create a Facebook group or a Twitter group and reward for community joins (or follows in the case of Twitter) then additionally reward for posts and comments. Ultimately creating an ecosystem where those that are more actively engaged with the group are rewarded more. This would be trackable, easy to set up and you would not run into any fraudulent behavior, because the attribution is fully available (to companies like Toki that integrate with these social platforms).
Each social platform has taken a different stand on their belief system around sharing data. Meta has done a decently good job of allowing tracking for third party platforms to a variety of actions like Posts and Comments. TikTok, however, is still very closed with their data and does not allow any third party attribution. This could be due to the fact they are a newer company. Or it could be an overarching strategy. Long story short, if you want to track for TikTok behaviors, you are going to have to use a third party API!
With Toki, we integrate with third party API’s to track and reward for TikTok behavior automatically. We also integrate with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Discord to track and reward for all the activities listed in green above. For any activities listed in red, we suggest using our Manual Approvals setting which requires users to submit link proof or photo proof that they did the action, and then the action goes into an approval cue for your customer success team to review.
